One thing my students always tell me is that native speakers speak too fast, but I’m here to tell you otherwise. It’s not that native speakers speak fast – although yes, some do! -, it’s that the way they use spoken English is different from the way you learned English.
When they speak, they combine elements of pronunciation that are essential to being understood, like intonation, rhythm and connected speech.
Knowing how to use these elements is what CAN and WILL help you sound clearer and communicate more effectively, especially if you are a professional and work in an English-speaking environment. Or if you are an advanced English speaker who uses English on an almost daily basis.
Unfortunately, these are also the things you’re never going to learn in a traditional English class, so in this American English pronunciation lesson, you and I are going to analyze a TED talk together where English is used authentically, and see all these elements in action.
I truly believe that pronunciation is the door to understanding and using spoken English with confidence, so if you've been looking for a way to improve your overall communication skills in English - accent, pronunciation, fluency, etc., then check out my website to learn more about my 1:1 personalized coaching services to see how I can help you take your spoken English to the next level.
